Nintex App Studio

Customize Nintex App Studio apps

This topic describes the process of building an app.
Nintex App Studio allows you to build custom versions of Nintex Mobile apps in just a few steps.
    Define general app settings: Add app details and select platforms for the app to build.
    Add connections: Add connections to fill the app with information from Nintex tenancies and sites.
    Select a theme: Upload app artwork and select a color scheme.
    Custom content: Add custom content to your app, and optionally target the app to specific forms or workflow tasks.
    Deploy and download apps: Deploy apps through App Deploy or download the app.

Create apps

Creating a custom app involves defining general app settings, adding connections, selecting a theme, and creating custom content. Apps cannot be deleted once created. Modify an existing app to make it seem new.

Visit https://www.nintex.com/workflow-platform/mobile/nintex-app-studio to get a trial of Nintex App Studio.

Define general app settings

Define the name and mobile platforms for a new app, as well as optional settings.
-          App name is visible to the mobile user.
-          Optionally enter an internal only description and create a custom URL scheme.

This topic describes the fields in the General page.

Add details
Name
Name of app as displayed on the mobile device. Must begin with an alphabetic character and is limited to 25 characters. The following characters are allowed: hyphen (-), space, and all alphanumeric characters.

Description
App description displayed within Nintex App Studio. Not displayed in the app.

URL scheme
Custom URL scheme to build Nintex Mobile links for this app. For more information about building Nintex Mobile links, see http://help.nintex.com/en-US/O365/Default.htm#cshid=3062.
Choose platforms
Android
Build the app for Android devices. Default selection.

iPhone and iPad
Build the app for iOS devices. Default selection.

Windows
Build the app for Windows devices.

Windows Phone
Build the app for Windows devices.

Add connections

Add connections to your app to provide authentication and access methods.
Maximum number of connections: 5.
Note:  Creating a Microsoft account connection removes all other connection types. Other connections cannot be used.

Connects directly to an on-premises SharePoint environment over a virtual private network (VPN). For use with Nintex SharePoint.

Display name
The name of the connection the mobile user will see.

URL
The address of the SharePoint server, including the protocol (http or https).

Domain
(Optional.) The name of your corporate network domain.

Office 365
Office 365
Connects to an Office 365 tenancy using Nintex for Office 365.
Note: The mobile user will be promoted to sign in with an Office 365 username and password.

Display name
The name of the connection the mobile user will see.

URL 
The address of the Office 365 tenancy, including the protocol (http or https).
The specified tenancy must be a site with an installation of the app; the site must be accessible by the specified user account.
Example 1: https://tenantname.sharepoint.com/sites/sitename

Nintex Workflow Cloud
Nintex Workflow Cloud
Connects to a Nintex Workflow Cloud tenancy.

Display name
The name of the connection the mobile user will see.

URL 
A valid address for a Nintex Workflow Cloud tenancy, including the protocol (http or https).
The tenancy must be accessible by the specified user account.
Example for a tenancy at the ACME company: https://acme.workflowcloud.com
Use Microsoft account
Use Microsoft account
Connection (formerly known as "Windows Live ID") that is registered with Nintex. Supported for Nintex Forms 2016, Nintex Forms 2013, and Nintex Forms 2010 only.
Note:  Creating a Microsoft account connection removes all other connection types. Other connections cannot be used.




Select a theme

Brand your app by adding artwork and choosing a defined color scheme or creating a custom one.

Choose or create a color scheme
Nintex (Default)
Standard Nintex color scheme.

(defined themes)
List of alternative, tricolor color schemes.

Customize
Displays the custom color scheme section.
Create a custom color scheme (displayed when Customize is selected)
Highlight color
Color of interactive and activate sections.

Background color
Color of the app background.

User interface color
Body, label, and icon text.

Text input color
Background color of input fields.

Field and modal text color
Color of user-entered text.


Content page

Displays and closes the Add menu item dialog box. Maximum number of menu items: 16.
Icon
The icons displayed in the app.
Name
The name of the menu item visible in the app.
Type
The type of menu item.
  • Content: Upload images, videos, and documents.
Supported file types: .mp4, .3gp, .m4a, .m4v, .mov, .mp3, .wav, .avi, .mpg, .pdf, .ppt, .pptx, .xls, .xlsx, .doc, .docx, .txt, .html, and .rtf.

  • Scan: Scan deep linking QR codes to open them in your app.
For more information, see Add a scan menu item.
  • Menu item types include those for removed default menu items, such as Outbox.
Note:  Except for content, each menu item type is only allowed once per app.
Add content
Displayed for content menu items. Displays the Content dialog box to upload images, videos, and documents to your menu item.

Opens the Edit menu item dialog box to change the menu item icon and name.

Removes the menu item.
Removing a menu item deletes the option from the app. For informzation on re-adding or creating a menu item, see Custom content.

Reorders the menu items.
Dragging and dropping the menu item determines the order they appear in the app.
Note: The first menu item is the default page when the app opens.
Forms
In the app, displays the forms associated with your connections.
To filter the visibility of the forms, see Filter forms and workflow tasks.
Task
In the app, displays the tasks associated with your connections.
To filter the visibility of the tasks, see Filter forms and workflow tasks.
Note: Only visible for connections supporting tasks.
Add filter
Displays the Forms or Tasks dialog box.
For information on how to add a filter, see Filter forms and workflow tasks.
Outbox
In the app, displays the items waiting to be submitted.
Sent items
In the app, displays the submitted items.
Draft
In the app, displays the saved, uncompleted items.
Settings
In the app, displays App settings. Can not be deleted or reordered.


Build apps

To build an app:-
   On the new app page, click Save & Build in the ribbon.

   Email notifications are sent when the build process is complete.

App Deploy page


Once your app is built, you can deploy it through either App Deploy or a Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution. When using an MDM, you must download the apps for testing and deploying.

Selection
Description
Distribution lists
Lists of customized App Deploy recipient email addresses.
Manage distribution lists
Opens the Manage distribution lists page where the App Deploy distribution lists are editable.
Auto deploy
Automatically sends App Deploy emails to selected distribution lists when a new version of the Nintex Mobile app is released.
Note: Does not apply when app is first built.
Send email to lists now
Sends App Deploy emails to selected distribution lists.
Preview email
Sends email to site owner to preview.
View emails sent report
Opens the Email sent page, which gives details on the sent emails.
View app download report
Opens the App Downloads page, which gives details on the downloaded emails.
App details for MDM
Displays the Application info message box with Mobile Device Management (MDM) solution information for each platform.


Manage distribution lists page

This topics describes the field for the Manage distribution list page.
Field
Description
Distribution list
Name of lists configured.
Emails
Number of emails in a list.
Date last used
The date the distribution list was last used to deploy an app.
Delete
Option to delete the distribution list.
Note: Deleting the distribution list does not affect other distribution lists.
